Concentric ripples carved into ivory, spreading as if something had just touched the surface. Tone on tone, so the water is entirely a matter of light and relief.
The Japanese dry garden makes water without water: raked gravel around set stones, patterns read as a stream or a sea. At Ryōan-ji the fifteen stones in their raked field have been interpreted as islets in water for centuries, without anyone settling the question. This design borrows that method — the suggestion carries further than the statement.
Hand-knotted in Kathmandu on a Tibetan loom, where a continuous yarn is looped around a gauge rod and cut row by row to release the pile. Graded 60, 80 or 100 knot on the Nepali trade's standard scale. Himalayan wool, over 1,400 colours. Made to order in 12 to 16 weeks in production, in your size, your palette and your pile height — every piece woven new, for one interior only.
