TeHer Art Rugs makes hand-knotted rugs, one at a time, for the people who will live with them.
Every piece is woven to order in Kathmandu, Nepal, in Himalayan wool. Nothing sits in a warehouse. When you choose a design, a size and a knot density, a loom is set up and the weaving begins — and twelve to sixteen weeks later a rug exists that did not exist before, made for your room and no other.
Hand-knotting is slow by nature. A weaver ties each knot individually onto a vertical loom, row by row, following the design. Knot density is the choice that changes everything:
Above 100 knots we weave to commission. Our palette runs past fourteen hundred dyed colours, so a design can be matched to a room rather than the other way round.
TeHer Art Rugs grows out of AKA, the production atelier through which we have worked with artists and craft workshops since 2018 — translating drawings, paintings and prints into knotted textile. That work has been carried out in five countries, each with its own technique and its own hands:
What we learned making one-off pieces for galleries is what you get in a rug ordered from this site: the same looms, the same wool, the same standard of finish.
Our studio is in Miami, and we see clients by appointment. If you are working on a project and want to handle the wool, compare knot densities side by side, or talk through a size that isn't on the list, that conversation is worth having in person.
We also run a program for interior designers and decorators, with trade pricing and support on specification.
Every rug is knotted after the order is placed, on a vertical loom at LAMA Carpet in Nepal. Nothing sits in a warehouse. 12 to 16 weeks in production; shipping time is quoted separately.
Each piece is knotted by our network of master artisans, whose skills pass from one generation to the next. Himalayan wool, and silk where the design calls for it.
Any design can be made to your size, palette and pile height. Over 1,400 dyed colours; bespoke sizes and 150-knot weaving are quoted on request.
