Interlace Sonata
Large pebble forms overlap and pass through one another in layered tonal beige, all of it carved rather than coloured. The scale is generous — three or four gestures fill a whole floor.
Interlace — line passing over and under itself without beginning or end — is the ornament of Insular manuscripts, the abstract decoration of the Book of Kells, written close to the year 800. What was drawn there in miniature, at the scale of a letter, is drawn here at the scale of a room.
Hand-knotted in Kathmandu on a Tibetan loom, where a continuous yarn is looped around a gauge rod and cut row by row to release the pile. Graded 60, 80 or 100 knot on the Nepali trade's standard scale. Himalayan wool, over 1,400 colours. Made to order in 12 to 16 weeks in production, in your size, your palette and your pile height — every piece woven new, for one interior only.
