Fractured Contour

One large irregular contour encloses almost the whole field, split by a few long fracture lines into big facets. The outline is deliberately unsteady — drawn, not ruled.

Kintsugi is the Japanese repair of broken ceramics with lacquer and gold, and its argument is that the break is worth showing: the mend becomes a visual record of what the object has been through. This design takes the same position. The fracture is not a flaw in the pattern, it is the pattern.

Hand-knotted in Kathmandu on a Tibetan loom, where a continuous yarn is looped around a gauge rod and cut row by row to release the pile. Graded 60, 80 or 100 knot on the Nepali trade's standard scale. Himalayan wool, over 1,400 colours. Made to order in 12 to 16 weeks in production, in your size, your palette and your pile height — every piece woven new, for one interior only.
