Art Deco Ziggurat

A stepped temple rises through warm sand tones, tier over tier, with an arc at its base. Strongly symmetrical and strongly vertical — it gives a long room an axis and an ending.

The stepped skyscraper was not a style decision, it was a law. New York's 1916 Zoning Resolution required buildings to set back as they rose, and the stepped-pyramid silhouette that followed became so admired it travelled from Chicago to Shanghai as a look. This design works in that silhouette, at the scale of a floor.

Hand-knotted in Kathmandu on a Tibetan loom, where a continuous yarn is looped around a gauge rod and cut row by row to release the pile. Graded 60, 80 or 100 knot on the Nepali trade's standard scale. Himalayan wool, over 1,400 colours. Made to order in 12 to 16 weeks in production, in your size, your palette and your pile height — every piece woven new, for one interior only.
