ARTIST

Carlos Amorales

Carlos Amorales is a Mexican artist exploring the limits of language and communication through abstract forms like sounds, gestures, and symbols. His work spans animation, video, drawing, and performance, with a focus on translation—transforming instruments, letters, and narratives into new forms of expression.

Central to his practice is Archivo Líquido (1998), a project replacing words with abstract shapes, reflecting his interest in alternative systems of meaning. Through this work, Amorales challenges conventional structures of language, offering viewers new ways to interpret and engage with visual and sonic elements.

Amorales has exhibited globally, including at the Stedelijk Museum, MUAC, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and represented Mexico at the 57th Venice Biennale. His work is featured in major collections such as the Guggenheim and Centre Pompidou. He lives and works in Mexico City.
