Axis & Ovoid
Amber organic forms sit on ivory, crossed by two fine black lines that meet at a right angle. Two languages in one field — the mass and the line — and the tension between them is the design.
Kandinsky set out the grammar in Point and Line to Plane, published in 1926 as the ninth Bauhaus book: the point, the line and the plane as the irreducible elements, each with its own force. This piece is nearly a demonstration of it — a soft mass, a hard line, and the plane they share.
