Deco Grid

A plaid grid layered in cream and soft grey-blue, its lines crossing at slightly different weights so the field reads as woven rather than ruled. It sits quietly under furniture and holds a room together without competing for attention.

The grid as ornament was one of the Wiener Werkstätte's signatures: Josef Hoffmann's repeated squares — the Gitterwerk — ran through everything from metalwork to the Palais Stoclet in Brussels, designed 1905 and completed 1911, whose austere geometry is credited with turning Art Nouveau toward Art Deco. This is that discipline, softened into wool.

Hand-knotted in Kathmandu on a Tibetan loom, where a continuous yarn is looped around a gauge rod and cut row by row to release the pile. Graded 60, 80 or 100 knot on the Nepali trade's standard scale. Himalayan wool, over 1,400 colours. Made to order in 12 to 16 weeks in production, in your size, your palette and your pile height — every piece woven new, for one interior only.
