The Power Within the Hand

TeHer Art Rugs is honored to present a singular rug collaboration with acclaimed Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea. Known for his evocative explorations of architecture, power structures, and human form, Arrechea brings his sculptural language into textile for the first time—transforming a powerful hand sculpture into a woven artwork of bold conceptual force and exquisite detail.
The design captures the expressive tension and symbolism of the human hand—a universal emblem of action, resistance, and creation. To fully honor the sculptural depth and line precision of Arrechea’s original artwork, the rug was crafted at 150 knots per square inch, allowing for exceptional clarity and nuance.
Hand-knotted in Nepal by master artisans, this rug blends an extraordinary combination of materials: Tibetan highland wool, yak hair, Himalayan giant nettle hemp, and bamboo silk. Each fiber was chosen not only for its texture and natural integrity, but for the way it adds dimensionality and character to the final piece.
This is more than a rug—it is a woven sculpture that lives between strength and subtlety, tradition and contemporary voice. A testament to the power of collaboration between artist and artisan, the piece invites reflection on how form, fiber, and meaning intertwine beneath your feet.

Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea is renowned for his thought-provoking sculptures and installations that examine power, surveillance, and social structures. A founding member of the art collective Los Carpinteros, Arrechea’s solo career took off with public works like NOLIMITS, where iconic New York buildings twist and bend as flexible sculptures, challenging perceptions of urban life.

His work, often monumental in scale, explores the intersections between architecture and socio-political commentary. Through these large-scale interventions, Arrechea invites viewers to question the forces that shape cities and societies.

His work has been featured in prominent venues such as the Venice Biennale and Art Basel, making him one of Cuba's most influential contemporary artists.
