Edgar Orlanieta III
Three Variations on Form, Craft, and Memory
TeHer Art Rugs is proud to present an exclusive collaboration with acclaimed Mexican artist Edgar Orlaineta, known for his poetic sculptural practice that reinterprets mid-century design, popular culture, and material history. In this special project, Orlaineta created three unique rug designs, each brought to life using a different combination of materials and techniques—transforming his conceptual vocabulary into richly textured, tactile works.
Each piece in this trio stands as an exploration of form and memory. Orlaineta’s visual language—often referencing silhouettes, furniture archetypes, and symbolic abstraction—is woven into textile through a dialogue between design and process. The rugs reflect variations not just in imagery, but in construction, texture, and feel, achieved by adapting the medium to the expressive needs of each work.
Handcrafted in Nepal by TeHer’s master artisans, the collection employs a thoughtful mix of techniques—from traditional hand-knotting to flatweave and felted applications—and materials ranging from Himalayan wool and bamboo silk to natural fibers like hemp and nettle, each chosen to amplify the physical and conceptual weight of the design.
More than decorative objects, these rugs function as sculptural surfaces—each one a meditation on how material and memory can be reimagined underfoot. Through this multifaceted collaboration, TeHer reaffirms its commitment to innovation in craft, offering artists like Orlaineta a platform to translate their vision into timeless woven form.
