Alex Arrechea II
The Eye That Sees Power
TeHer Art Rugs proudly presents a singular collaboration with celebrated Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea. Known for his bold investigations into surveillance, control, and the architecture of power, Arrechea now turns his gaze inward—transforming his sculptural exploration of the eye into a one-of-a-kind woven artwork.
The eye, as both a physical organ and a symbol of perception, vigilance, and authority, becomes the central motif in this piece. Drawn from one of Arrechea’s iconic sculptures, the design is a meditation on the act of seeing and being seen—of power observed and power exercised.
To capture the intricacy and emotional resonance of the original sculpture, the rug was woven at 150 knots per square inch, enabling exceptional precision and depth. The piece is hand-knotted in Nepal using an uncommon fusion of materials: Tibetan highland wool, yak hair, Himalayan giant nettle hemp, and bamboo silk—each chosen for its texture, tonal variation, and tactile richness.
This is not merely a rug—it is a textile sculpture, alive with conceptual energy and material complexity. A dialogue between vision and form, contemporary critique and ancient technique, this singular work redefines how art can be seen, felt, and lived with.
Through this collaboration, TeHer continues its mission to unite the voices of today’s most compelling artists with the mastery of heritage craft—creating pieces that are both enduring and profoundly expressive.
