José Bedia, a pivotal figure in Cuban art, gained prominence through the transformative 1981 exhibition Volumen Uno and his participation in the first Havana Biennial (1984). He represented Cuba at the Venice Biennale (1990) and was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship (1992).
His notable solo exhibitions include Magiciens de la Terre at the Centre Pompidou (1989), Where I Come From at the ICA Philadelphia (1994), and Transcultural Pilgrim at UCLA’s Fowler Museum (2012). Through these shows, Bedia has shared his transcultural vision with audiences worldwide.
Bedia’s works are held in major collections, including MoMA, the Guggenheim, and the Hirshhorn Museum, solidifying his legacy in contemporary art.
