Carlos Amorales × Rodrigo Albir × TeHer Art Rugs

A Unique Collaboration Between Art and Design
At TeHer Art Rugs, we believe the most powerful creations emerge when worlds collide—when contemporary art meets timeless craft, and when visionary designers join forces with boundary-pushing artists. Our latest collaboration embodies this philosophy, bringing together internationally renowned artist Carlos Amorales and Rodrigo Albir, creative director of Studio RODA, in partnership with TeHer’s master artisans in Nepal.
The result: a collection of rugs that redefine the intersection of art, design, and cultural heritage.

Carlos Amorales: A Language of Symbols

Carlos Amorales (b. 1970, Mexico City) is one of Latin America’s most influential contemporary artists. His practice spans performance, installation, film, and sculpture, but at its core lies his exploration of symbols, abstraction, and the tension between order and chaos. His iconic silhouettes—birds, masks, insects—have appeared at the Venice Biennale, Tate Modern, MoMA, and Museo Tamayo, placing him at the forefront of global contemporary art.
For this collaboration, Amorales translated elements of his symbolic universe into the textile medium, creating designs that are at once strikingly graphic and deeply poetic.

Rodrigo Albir & Studio RODA: Precision in Design

Rodrigo Albir, founder of Studio RODA, is known for his architectural and design sensibility—projects that balance structure, harmony, and contemporary sophistication. His approach emphasizes clarity of line, bold form, and meticulous attention to detail.
Bringing this discipline into dialogue with Amorales’s visual language, Albir helped adapt the artist’s abstract vocabulary into rug compositions that function equally as artworks and design objects. His role ensured that the rugs not only captured Amorales’s vision but also integrated seamlessly into contemporary interiors.

The Craft: Tibetan Hand-Knotted in Nepal

Each rug was produced in Nepal using the Tibetan hand-knotting technique with Himalayan wool and bamboo silk.
• Technique: Knot densities ranging from 100–150 knots per square inch, allowing sharp detail and fluid forms.
• Materials: Himalayan wool for resilience and depth; bamboo silk for luminous highlights.
• Format: Available as floor rugs or wall-hung tapestries.
The result is a collection that feels sculptural, graphic, and timeless—true to Amorales’s artistic vision and Albir’s design precision.
